tengrams are brothers alessandro and davide, who collectively have a deep and long understanding of dance music. davide is a co-founder of n.o.i.a, one of italy s first electronic live acts to perform and record with drum machines and synthesizers as early as 1978. he was also behind seminal italo outfit klein + m.b.o and proto house hit dirty talk. since then they have released under an array of aliases, have clocked up numerous club hits and this new project brings them back to their electronic roots, with influences like sci-fi movies and old school electro and italo looming large. -devious- is a very breezy and energetic track with a rolling arpeggio and rich keyboards section over a simply but groovy tr-808 pattern. classical italo space disco sound updated to nowadays. -translucent- sounds like a dreamy electro-ballad heavily influenced by kraftwerk. -pop song- keeps the same 80 s electro vibes with simple, wistful melodies and a great funk bass line. -disco dub- is a pretty damn cool early eighties electronica, with a great pumping -robo-funk- linndrum!

malmö s own sune fills in for better listen s tenth release, continuing a run of sweet scandinavian finds for the label. the butter love ep is a true reflection of the crime city man s sound jovial, dusty disco and soul samples adorned by heady drum machine programming.

mondo groove celebrates italo-disco in fine style delighting us with the most important tunes from the legendary phantom records a ride deep into the world of the label that has not only produced renowned music, but has been acknowledged as a serious influence on modern disco sounds. emerging in the late 70s to early 80s, italo bridged the gap between disco and house, and was a staple of seminal chicago djs like frankie knuckles (who pioneered many of the drum machines and synths that are still in use today). i-robots, a true connoisseur of the genre, hailing from the piedmont area of italy, curated and carefully selected the tracks on this compilation. this eleven track collection features originals and rarities, officially repressed here for the first time, and 2 tracks re-edited by i-robots. the lp comes with the original phantom records logo on the front, scans of original 7-inch and lps covers, as well as photos of the era on the back.

the first and only licensed reissue of this rare 1979 two disc set rescued from obscurity by chris veltri (groove merchant records, sf) back in 2004. few have heard it till now. t.j. recorded these four tracks in the south bay, solo-style after stints in bay area bands the mysterious minds and dawn & the sunsets. this release contains two 12 inch discs with four side-long tracks housed in a beautiful 70s style matte tip-on gatefold jacket. disc one plays at 33 1/3 rpm and disc two at 45 rpm. a download card is included.

having established itself with eps from duke slammer and dmx krew, dublin’s modern magic welcomes bari’s armonics for the label’s third release. a trained pianist and resident dj/curator of the we talk event series in his home city, armonics draws influence from electronic music across the past 40 years: chicago & acid house, italo- & electro-disco, new wave, synth-pop and vaporwave.

da saa - the haunting sound of yemenite israeli funk 1974-1982. fortuna records deliver a stellar compilation of real-life magic created by immigrants from yemen, in tel aviv, from the mid seventies to the early eighties. ranging from extremely rare to previously unreleased, these tracks are a result of a unique scene which blended funk, soul, jazz & disco with traditional yemenite rhythms & sounds. it cannot get more obscure than this! fortuna heads: look out for an unreleased tsvia abarbanel from 1969!!! glorious gatefold lp with a 14 page booklet telling the fascinating story of this movement, for the very first time!

madrid. st petersburg. frigio is hooking up with russian electronic explorer volta cab for a four tracker of shadowy disco darkness. thick drum patterns are shot through with strobe as -johnny 320- enters the room. swaggering onto the floor, this greased thug means business. samples mutter intent as grooves grind and twist their way into the late hours. juanpablo lowers the lights for his remake. rhythms richochet and basslines loom in this lewd and dramatic track, a piece born in the grit and sweat of the floor under a haze smoke. the lights are kept low for the flip. -immortal fix- spikes and spins, laser beam synthlines cut through rumbling chords with snares that do more than just bear teeth. italy s hesperius draco closes johnny 320 with giallo horror grandeur. beats and words are shrouded in lilting strings for this sinister curtain fall.

byron s ballads is a dance treat on the housey-ish vibe showing ceephax s melodic skills in full flow. citylink is a smooth house/disco track ideal for cruising the ocean highways and downtown boulevards. sneaker is a poundy 303 classic with an emotional melody which is simultaneously uplifting and melancholy. haliphax is based on ceephax s earlier -friend track- but has a nice camelot chord arrangement and disco finale that takes it to medieval heights. the hague is a simple upbeat house track with wintery strings and distant pianos over a throbby bassline.

first off, there s up and coming austrian producer demuja, who gives can you feel the love a super deep and funky treatment, brimmed with disco percussion, lush pads and a tight drum pattern. dimitri from paris & dj rocca pair up to deliver an erodiscotique dubstrumental of right now of the highest grandeur bouncy drums, detuned synth stabs, a tropical piano and thined out vocals while going crazy on the handclaps to full effect. nico lahs also takes on can you feel the love, building a classic sounding shuffling house beat around a cheeky string sample that really suits max voice, and really shimmers in the breaks. german combo volksfreude remix hard tons tessio with a full on dramatic house flavor, exploring max vocal in full around a plethora of soft synth strings and vivid acid sequences. v limited press with hand stamp label & sticker.

alex ferrazzi and matteo keemani a.k.a. blue mondays, longtime laterra friends and collaborators (with releases on sonar kollektiv, rebirth, snatch!, memento, manocalda as well), strike again. they do it, as usual, their very own way: shades of balearic flavours in there, but with a very dark and malicious twist. marvin & guy add some disco nuances (keeping it raw and obscure, though), while nick anthony simoncino delivers a solid, strict, gloomy dancefloor affair. no frills, mad quality.

portland label dark leader returns with three tracks plucked from deep within the underground. acid farm, a local portland duo, kicks things off on side a with -bala 303,- a retro acid piece that embodies the spirit of ritual dance. next, kaliningrad s muzikalist brings us -acid disco valley,- a track that builds and builds to a frenzied reawakening of your inner raver. then on the b side a remix by the one and only black merlin. his take on -bala 303- drags your newly awakened monster into the darkest reaches of the unknown. dark leader 002 is housed in a full color jacket featuring both artwork and design by eric adrian lee, and mastered by timothy stollenwerk.

strut present the first in a series of essential original lp reissues exploring rare and under-rated african, latin and caribbean music classics, curated by duncan brooker. in january 2017, the series kicks off with ‘sugar daddy’, an experimental highlife / disco outing by nigerian highlife guitarist joe king kologbo.

our fourth 12- vinyl release, again a full 4 track artist ep, comes from young dutchman cleanfield. relatively unknown at the start of this year, we listened to his demo s and signed them on the spot for a vinyl release. they are really that good, and fall into the same category as the output of fouk, nachtbraker, and more..... while waiting on the production of this release he s made quite the entry as newcomer on the deephouse, nu-disco scene with a first digital release on delve deeper, that s still doing really well in the charts. we re really excited to release these super funky, groovy tracks on beautiful black wax.

great / delicious disco

it is time for the nang and rayko worlds to collide once more. the awesome madrid-based dj and producer is back with his second album on nang. as ever the grooves are wide, the beats are large and the musical elements ooze funk and nu disco sheen. thing open up with the title track and recent single no stopping. the track features the fine vocals from tania haroshka and it is a powerhouse of synth disco, electronic groove with real bass guitar and darting guitars giving it just a tint of miami vice sheen. 2016 single crazy is up next with it s catchy hooks and counter melodies. it comes with just the right amount of good-time groove to bring a smile to any face. things tone down robot life which is a creeping synth fest with wandering grooves and chunky drums. danielle moore features with a fine vocal on a pure rayko style classic cosmic pirate. muscular basses and darting guitars being deployed to maximum effect. ocarina of time is next with its layered complexity and stabby synth bass notes. tania haroshika returns for the final trio of tunes on the album. her fine vocals melding effortlessly with the slick production from our hero. first up is hot which builds the music slowly adding layers of multi tracked guitars and real bass before breaking forth into song. u sneaks in from the leftfield with its quirky strings and arpegiated synth-clavi lines. the album closes with the (slightly) melancholic and pensive groover space boat. tania adding a brooding vocal over a pulsating juno style bassline. a fine effort from our madrid based hero who once again shows everyone what this top-of-his-game dj-producer can do with some guitars and keyboards.

dr. love is a veteran and key tastemaker / vinyl junkie on the montreal scene and laura ingalls is a wandering french person of no specific sex who has recently landed in the french canadian city and they both bonded over their love of anything disco and poutine, the main local dish which consists of potato, cheese, gravy and maybe sometimes added meat! dr love likes to dig but doesn t really produce while laura ingalls is not the most efficient digger and only seems to unearth old folk and obscure arabic music for their personal collection but has serious production skills.

byron the aquarius fires up the mpc for a journey into the stratosphere, bringing the heat for ele records 3rdedition with planet rock, a jazz infected keyboard jam with chopped hip hop samples echoing into the cosmos. cozy bear follows with nudi riddim a delectable mix of african percussion, jazz samples and acidic basslines. on the b side we find more hip hop infused methodology, with glenn davis digging into salsouls back catalogue with his huge summer anthem holdin on. finally, unknown artist is back on ele following on from the huge anthem ru$h. this time it s back to the mpc with a daft punk style 90s disco banger fade (never know).

following a string of remixes throughout 2016, and one of her busiest summers on the road, cassy is rounding off the year on a high. enter ‘kwench records’, a collaborative imprint she has created to represent honest and upfront house music. the remit is simple, on each release two or more artists will collaborate on ep original material, with a different artist joining the package on remix duty. they must not be afraid to experiment, nor do what comes naturally to them. and above all, trust in themselves and their instincts. this is something cassy has proudly learned to master over her dj career, and she now wishes to put out records in a creative space that encourages this approach. for the first release, cassy has called in one of her favourite house music producers, canada based demuir, to collaborate with her. demuir’s ‘derrick does disco’ ep which came out on great lakes audio in 2016 was a favorite in cassy’s sets throughout that year, even making it onto her mixmag presents cd ‘let’s talk about donna’, which accompanied her cover in june. there are three original cuts on the package, and as a special treat for the first release, cassy is holding back the incredible remix package until later this year.
